Performing Arts Showcase

The 2014 Columbus Invitational Arts Competition’s Performing Arts Showcase is this Saturday, August 23rd, at the Columbus Performing Arts Center 549 Franklin Avenue, 7-9pm.  The Columbus Invitational (CIAC) is in its third year of featuring organizations that combine artistic excellence with exceptional community commitment.  This year it is expanding to an interstate event, with the best groups from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia coming together to compete head-to-head with last year’s local winners in the categories of visual and performing arts.  The Columbus Invitational has a larger mission of social change through the arts, and aims to be international by the year 2021.  All competitors will be judged by the criteria of craft, depth and creativity, by a jury drawn from representatives of all six states.
Detroit’s Sidewalk Festival of Performing Arts, Pittsburgh’s Black Orchid String Trio, Indianapolis’ NoExit Performance and Charleston’s Alban Arts Collective will present music, dance and theater in competition against Columbus’ own Saints Drum and Bugle Corps (the third place winner in 2012 and the grand prize winner in 2013).  There will also be a special guest performance by last year’s audience favorite CoMo Dance Company.
