A few years ago, I participated in a number of the remix contests sponsored by the Indaba website –a chance to play producer with some big name artists. Generally I tried to work chiefly with the raw materials of the original song. Although I entered many contests (and won none!) I felt my most successful remix was the track linked below, for the song “Warriors” by Kimbra, Mark Foster and A-Trak.
The original song was a very full, electronic soundscape. My remix was a much more stripped down, organic and minimalist experience that highlighted the vocals and the lyrics.
