Last week I was blessed to have an amazing opportunity I had never even dreamt of –to travel to Cuba. My wife was being featured as a part of a group of Columbus area artists at the Bienal De La Habana (the Havana Biennial), an every-two-years citywide celebration of art. Our thanks to the organizers, Michael Reese and Ruthie Newcomer, and to all the wonderful artists and others who welcomed us in Cuba. I’ve never been anywhere that felt safer or more welcoming, or where the people were more gracious than in Havana.
It was also a city (like New Orleans in the United States) where everyone, no matter who they were, lived and breathed art and music at all times and in all places. An absolutely amazing experience.
