Exquisite Corps(e)

Exquisite Corpse was a game played by the surrealists, in which they collaborated on a story or artwork. Each person would contribute a piece, usually based on just a tiny fragment of what came before. The results were predictably surreal and often beautiful. I was introduced to the visual version many years ago when it was a popular pastime on an online forum I frequented.

I hadn’t thought of it in years, but at a recent Wexner Center exhibition, I was introduced to a daring new version of the concept, this time with dancing choreographers:

I’ve now watched this video several times, and it never ceases to fascinate me.
